 WESTERN AUSTRALIAN JOURNAL OF ORNITHOLOGY

The result of nearly three years hard work and much thought and consideration, Amytornis has finally entered publication. It is through the continued support and faith of our peers that the realisation of Amytornis has been made possible.

Amytornis is a forum for publication of peer-reviewed, scientific articles, notes and annotated lists and opinions and letters to the editor, which will appear in the Discussion section. It is hoped that through Amytornis, more and more of the considerable amount of grey literature and data hidden within the notebooks of naturalists will reach publication and thus become accessible to the wider scientific community. Articles published in Amytornis have focus on Western Australian ornithology, included in this are the Australian Territories of Christmas and Cocos Islands. Amytornis is envisaged as a complementary publication to Western Australian Bird Notes, the existing well known publication of Birds Australia Western Australia, and not as a competitor.

Although Amytornis has reached the stage of publication, the outlook is still and forever changing. As this is the case, we welcome comment from our peers as to ways we may improve what we hope will be an informative and widely-read publication.

It is the aim of this journal to promote the publication of articles relating to ornithological research in Western Australia. Research papers may be submitted on a variety of subjects including the ecology, behaviour, biology, physiology and taxonomy of Western Australia's birds. Annotated species lists may also be submitted. The submission of articles derived from banding studies is encouraged. Manuscripts thought to be of suitable content will be reviewed by at least two referees, with the review process being overseen by the Managing Editor and the Editorial Board. It is assumed by Amytornis and the Managing Editor that manuscripts submitted for review have not been submitted to, are under review or have been published in any other publication.
