History
Located in the Newington Armory- formerly the Royal Australian Navy Armaments Depot in the Parklands at Sydney Olympic Park, the Discovery Centre involved the adaptive reuse of 4 heritage buildings over 250m² for the purposes of administration, library and interpretation facilities. Adjoining the Newington Nature Reserve - which is of significant environmental value - the facility will provide an additional area of interest for the increasing number of visitors to the Parklands. Importantly it further reinforces the partnership between the Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) and Birds Australia in engaging the community, and communicating key messages related to biodiversity and the value of birds and their habitats. |
